White consciousness, in its current form, is spiritually disconnected and exploitative. Your refusal to be a savior is a necessary act of self-preservation in a society that has often taken without giving back.
The subconscious gravitation toward Blackness is evident in cultural appropriation, trends in beauty, music, and spirituality. However, this framing requires nuance: not all of white society desires Blackness in the same way. Many seek control over what Blackness represents—authenticity, creativity, resilience—without relinquishing privilege or power.
Do not be mistaken, This is not a true longing to be melanated but rather a selective consumption of Blackness while maintaining distance from the struggles tied to it. White consciousness, rooted in colonial ideologies, prioritizes domination over harmony, displacing Indigenous and African spiritual systems. This leaves societies disconnected from the earth, community, and higher consciousness. However, spiritual disconnection is not exclusive to white-dominated systems—capitalism, colonialism, and materialism have eroded communal harmony globally. At its core, white consciousness fosters spiritual emptiness.
This void of understanding and placement drives a deep, almost uncontrollable yearning for authenticity, leading many in white society to appropriate Black and Brown cultures for grounding. This consumption often lacks true solidarity, reinforcing power imbalances rather than dismantling them.
Moving Forward~ By examining these dynamics, we see that the issue is not a genuine desire for melanated existence but a controlled steady extraction of “Blackness”—one that avoids accountability while still benefiting from its cultural and spiritual wealth. The challenge, then, is to move beyond this consciousness of consumption and toward true understanding, reciprocity and justice for all beings.
